It's that time. Time to load up your belongings, and move to your new home. If you've always had help with your moves, or this will be your first official move as an adult, you might not know all the tricks designed to make moving easier. Some of those tricks involve your moving truck. If you're going to be renting a box truck for your move, you want to take advantage of the space you have available.

Using the space efficiently and effectively will save you time and money. First, you'll save time because you won't have to make as many trips to move your belongings. Second, you'll save money because you won't have to rent the truck for additional days, and because you'll reduce the amount of damages you'll incur during the move. To help make your use of your rental truck as efficient as possible, here are three tips you should follow when packing up your belongings.

Load the Weight Evenly

When loading your truck, it's important that you load the weight evenly. Placing heavy items on one side, while placing light items on the other, will cause problems during tight turns. Not only that, but you'll use more gas, since your truck will have to work harder to keep the load even. To prevent problems, make sure your load is evenly distributed. One way to do that is to load all the heavy items in the back of the truck. Once you have the heavy items in the back of the truck, you can start filling it up with boxes and other personal items.

Protect Your Breakables

If you've got mirrors, and other breakables, be sure to provide them with the protection they need. First, wrap all your breakables in bubble-wrap, even if they're going to be placed in boxes. Second, find safe places for your larger breakables, such as your mirrors and pictures. One way to protect those breakables is to place them between your mattresses. Place your mattresses on end, up against the wall of the truck. Next, carefully wedge your mirrors and pictures between the mattresses. Finally, tie rope around the mattresses to keep them in place during the drive to your new place.

Utilize Your Shelves

If you've got bookshelves, don't let them go to waste. Put those shelves to use as additional moving space. Stacking your boxes on the shelves will free up valuable floor space for other items. You can also use your dresser drawers for storage space during the move as well.

If you're in the process of moving, make the most of your box truck rental. Use the tips provided here to avoid wasted space and broken belongings during your move.
